Advansta Introduces AdvanStain Scarletâ„¢ Protein Stain

A quantitative, sensitive total protein stain for gels and blots

Menlo Park, CA, October 10, 2012 — Advansta announces the release of AdvanStain Scarlet, a new environmentally friendly, fluorescent stain for the detection of proteins in gels and blots that combines sensitivity and quantitative ability with a fast protocol.

AdvanStain Scarlet is based on epicocconone, a small, naturally occurring compound that only fluoresces when reversibly bound to protein via basic amino acids. The unbound dye does not fluoresce, resulting in very low backgrounds and no speckling. AdvanStain Scarlet is sensitive, allowing visualization of less than 1 ng of protein per band or spot. AdvanStain Scarlet also provides a large linear dynamic range for more accurate protein quantitation and reliable comparisons of protein amount between samples. The AdvanStain Scarlet protocol can be completed in 3 hours, and stained gels or blots can be imaged under multiple imaging conditions including excitation with UV (302, 365 nm), violet (405 nm) blue (488 nm), and green (543, 532 nm) wavelengths, using CCD or laser-based imaging systems. AdvanStain Scarlet is fully compatible with downstream applications including mass spectrometry.
